Step 2; “Operation Grow Your Hair Back”

Step 2;  Double Cleansing

In today's blog post I will be giving you an amazing Botanical Pre-Cleansing Scalp Serum recipe that you can easily make  from home, plus its 100% natural, with antibacterial and antifungal properties. It also helps with thinning hair and promotes hair growth.

So over the next six months of this challenge we are going to double-cleansing  our scalp every wash day using our Botanical Pre-Cleansing Scalp Serum.

We want to see how double cleansing our scalp would really help us on our healthy hair journey using carefully selected botanicals and simple recipes.

Okay right so I thought of this idea, why don’t we double cleanse our  scalp the same way we double cleanse our skin. If we can use oil as a cleanser even with a full face of makeup then surely we can do the same for our scalp as well.

Okay so just in case you didn't know double cleansing aka (oil cleansing) has become extremely popular in the skincare industry, and many have even made it a staple in their skincare routine as well.

What is oil Cleansing cleansing

Oil cleansing is a method used for cleansing the face with an oil first before then going in with any form of soap cleansing hence why it's called double cleansing.

It uses the concept of like dissolves like, so oil dissolves oils.

The process starts with you first using an oil to really dissolve and breakdown all the hardened oils on the face and in the pores, so that by the time you go in with your cleanser your face is super clean. So  I thought, hmmmm wouldn't it be an excellent idea to do a double cleanse for our scalp as well.

Why should we use a Pre-Cleansing Scalp serum?

I mean let's think about it, our scalp is also skin as well, it can get clogged up with all the different products we use  such as; serums, creams, butters, lotions and oils. Doing a double cleanse will make sure that we are getting rid of all that buildup, unclogging our pores and make our scalp ready for the shampoo process.

Doing the double cleanse method will let us know that our scalp is extra clean.

Our scalp is the main foundation to our hair growth and healthy hair can only grow from a healthy scalp. We should  consider wash days to be the most important day of your hair care routine as it sets the tone for the rest of the week and your routines. So we want to start off with a nice clean and healthy scalp.

What are the ingredients and the benefits

We are going to be using specific botanicals in this recipe, mainly for their antibacterial, cleansing, moisturising, oil balancing and more importantly to help us promote hair growth.

This recipe is really simple and easy to follow which means you can easily make this at home and get started on your double cleansing.

Botanicals Ingredients

Olive oil for its natural moisturising properties

Castor oil one of the most commonly used oils for oil-cleansing as its a natural astringent

Lemon Balm, is a mild natural astringent and is excellent for toning and balancing the scalp.

Ginger  has essential vitamins and minerals that actually help with hair thinning.

The second best thing about ginger is that it helps with blood flow and circulation to the scalp which will help to promote hair growth.

Manuka Essential Oil, manuka essential oil has been known to have 30times more antibacterial and antifungal properties than tea-tree oil. It’s also an excellent natural remedy for treating dandruff.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil, is known to help promote sebum production and balancing oil production. Ylang Ylang is also excellent for those with dry itchy scalp.

What if you don’t have a slow cooker at home, that’s no problem, the video below will show you how you can still male your own Botanical Pre-Cleansing Scalp Serum using the double boiler method.

  1. Just follow steps 1-5 above

  2. Place the mason Jar into a stove pot

  3. Fill the pot with cold water to cover at least ¾ of the height of the mason jar

  4. Use the SMALLEST  burner and bring the water to a boil

  5. Then turn down the burner to a medium to low  heat so it just simmers

  6. Leave it on the stove for 6 hours

  8. If the water gets to low top it up with boiling water so the herbs can continue to simmer

  9. Repeat steps 10-13 as above.

How to use the Botanical Pre-Cleansing Scalp Serum

  1. Add  1/2Tbs of your prepared Botanical Pre-cleansing Scalp Serum to a small bowl

  2. Add drops of 2drops Manuka Essential oil and drops of 1drop of Ylang Ylang oil and mix together with your finger

  3. Apply the Botanical Cleansing Scalp Serum directly to the scalp in sections to cover the entire head

  4. Gently massages the scalp for 3mins with finger tips, to help to dissolve and break down all the hardened oils on the scalp. Really take your time with this step  plus it’s a good opportunity to give yourself a nice scalp massage.

  5. Cover the hair with shower cap and heat cap and leave it on for 15-30mins, (this will help to open up the pores and allow the antibacterial properties of the essential oils to really take effect.)

  6. Shampoo hair thoroughly as usual with your Botanical Shampoo Bar.
